Logos, line art, silhouettes and drawings work best. We turn your file into clean engraving outlines — adjust until it looks right.

Filled, outline or single-line?

Everything we make is engraved by laser. Depending on the product and the font you pick, the laser burns your design in one of three ways. These pictures are the same design done each way.

The Duffields, Est. 1998, filled engraving on cedar
Filled: the laser fills in every letter and shape, so they come out bold, solid and dark, and easy to read from across a room. This is the look for most signs, boards and plaques.
The same design with outline engraving
Outline: the laser traces only the edges of each letter with a fine line, for a lighter look. We use it on a few products for a lighter look, and their preview shows it.
The same words in single-line fonts
Single-line: pick one of the single-line fonts and each letter is written with one fine line, like a pen on paper. It's delicate and elegant, and it mixes well with filled text and borders.
The four single-line fonts: Allure, Felix, Tech and Readability
The single-line fonts: Allure and Felix (script), Tech (handwriting) and Readability (clean print). You'll find them at the bottom of every font list.

Outline and single-line engraving are fine lines, about as wide as a sharp pencil line, so they look lighter than filled engraving and are at their best at medium to large sizes. Your preview always shows exactly the style you'll get.
